I recently attended the District 4 memorial service at Lewistown 143. After I read the 23 names of members that had passed the past year, many thoughts passed through my mind.
I wondered what their Moose lives were all about. Had they previously served as an officer of the lodge? Did they volunteer for activities at the lodge? Did they join in at activities such as clam bakes, dinners, etc? Did they frequent the social quarters on a regular basis? Or possibly they just enjoyed paying their dues and being a part of the greatest fraternity in this country? Some did all some not so much.
In any event their membership had meaning and worth and they leave behind a legacy; the continuation of the Selinsgrove Lodge and the support and protection of our kids at Mooseheart and our seniors at Moosehaven.
It also brought to mind that our membership is dwindling and that legacy is in jeopardy. When I assumed this position our membership was over 900 men. We currently have 782 members on the rolls. We need to preserve the members we have but we also need to invite new members to join us so that we may continue the work those 23 members and all those before them did to support our kids at Mooseheart and our seniors at Moosehaven.
I am asking each of you to invite a friend or a family member to join us so that we do not falter in keeping the legacy of those that came before us.
May God bless you all and keep you safe throughout the summer.
